A Liberal Feminist Discusses (and defends) Sarah Palin

Whether Sarah Palin can stage a comeback, or even if she wants one, is yet to be seen. This we do know: She incites an irrational case of the fleck spittle heebie jeebies in liberals like no one since Newt Gingrich.

One person of the left, Camille Paglia, completely disagrees with Palin's politics, but nonetheless has a great appreciation for her as an accomplished woman in the public arena.

Camille Paglia, mother, lesbian, college professor, is my favorite liberal. She is a thinking woman, completely liberated from the doctrines of her confreres, and she says what she thinks in beautiful, direct prose. Here's her take on Rush Limbaugh:
I totally agree with Rush about "feminazis," whose amoral tactics and myopic worldview I as a dissident feminist had to battle for decades. As a student of radio and a longtime listener of Rush's show, I have gotten a wealth of pleasure and insight from him over the years.
She's written a thoughtful and entertaining piece on the latest chapter of the Palin Saga. Her criticism of Sarah is constructive, and she couches it in a disdain for how the media and pop culture have treated her. It's a short read. I highly recommend it. Here are a few excerpts:

On Palin's 3rd of July press conference:
What certainly was blameworthy was the chaotic and rushed statement itself. Something so politically consequential needed more careful composition and rehearsal. Why provide more fodder for the vultures and harpies of the Northeastern media?
She has some pointed criticism for the press:
She also needs a shrewder, cooler take on the mainstream media, with its preening bullies, cackling witches, twisted cynics and pompous windbags.
For a longer Paglia analysis of Palin that is very positive, go here. If you want to arm up to defend Sarah, this column will provide you plenty of ammo. We conservatives must honestly assess Sarah Palin, or we are no better than the ObamaBots. Paglia shows us how. I wish we had more Camille Paglia's on both the right and left. Perhaps we could actually have an honest, meaningful dialog...

Palin is not a feminist issue. and by the way, feminism/feminist can mean almost anything. You have to preface them with "radical" or "liberal" - feminist for the term to actually mean anything other than concerning with women's issues.

But back to my main point. Obama may be as much of a celeb as Palin, but he's bright and actually have good ideas (as viewed by progressivists).

If you agree with Palin's ideas, that fine, but do you really want a beauty queen representing the positions you most strongly support?

If a stewardist tells me global warming is a hoax, I'm less inclined to believe her. Call me sexist if you will. And yes, Sarah Palin is a fucking bimbo-stewardist-beautyqueen-category 5- moron.

Obamabots apparently do!

And the record still reflects that Sarah Palin has accomplished more than Obama. All he had ever done was run a shakedown operation and a school newspaper.

Now he's president, so he's got that over her. Still to be seen is if he'll actually have any accomplishments after four years other than destroying America.

Destroying the idiot values you believe and achieving a country which is kindto the poor, etc... I think he will do that.

How is she more accomplished than Obama. I don't get that argument. She has an extra year or two in politics?

I'll take a year or two of being editor of the harvard law review over that any day.
