Coal-Powered Prius and Other Liberal Ideas

The law of unintended consequences, like the laws of physics, will catch up with you every time

I am not against health care reform or whatever they're calling it nowadays. We could use some tort reform and insurance deregulation.

I am against clueless crusaders trying to save the world by building monstrosities with my money. Having hope in our politicians is like having hope that those one-thousand monkeys pounding away on a thousand typewriters will eventually produce the great American novel.

Consider what our government has accomplished, or should I say destroyed, so far.

Starve People, Feed Cars!
What a great idea ethanol is! Food riots, skyrocketing prices in poverty-stricken nations that can least afford it. Grain shortages have also resulted in higher prices for grain-fed livestock. All brought to you by the US Government.

Killing people in the War on Terror, bad. Starving them to death so smug liberals can feel good about themselves when they tank up at that special pump, priceless!

Coal-Powered Environmentalism
So you think your electric car is environmentally friendly? Wrong! It runs on coal. More so if you live back east, less so out west. This will continue to be the case until you can plug that little self-righteous crap-box into a windmill or solar panel.

Do you really believe Obama when he says his health care plan will save money? Do you really think he and his confreres in congress believe it? Ask the food rioters in Oaxaca if they believe it.

Ahh, early morning, birds singing, the creak of the fire-tube as I shovel coal in my Stanley 740D... looks like we've come full circle.

CP: Coolest July here, ever!!! See, Two can play that game.

Yes, Grasshopper, global warming is a hoax.

Those scolding us, including your Reverend Al Gore, have gargantuan carbon footprints. Oh, but they purchase environmental indulgences to atone for their sins!

If you're one of those follow the money guys, the fact that Al Gore owns a lucrative carbon offset business where the Hollywood scolds go to cleanse their dirty consciences should interest you.

The science is not settled, it's bedeviled by imprecise measurements and methods and the sheer complexity of the earth's atmosphere. BTW, one data point does not a trend make.

Beware international types bearing shaky data and linear models, especially when they attempt to model something as complex as the earth's atmosphere.

Are you ready for an ice age? Go read this.

Phil Chapman is a NASA astronaut and scientist, and a geophysicist. I know, he doesn't have the UN House of Scandal stamp of approval, so we must strike down his words and make him a non-person.

Good scientists dispassionately investigate and view the data with skepticism. The junk scientists look for what bolsters their opinion and then run to the UN with their data.

If you don't see how Orwellian all of this is you are blind.

This guy says it better than I ever could:

I may start listening to those scolding me about the environment if they lived like I do.

You are a moron Silverfiddle. Honestly; even most republicans admit it is happening but say it's too late to do anything or that God was planning on destroying the world anyways, no surprise it's getting hotter; hot enough for him to take us up to heaven while all you sinners burn down here.

I don't know how 1 or 2 scientists really match up to the entire scientific community.

I have a friend who is on a scholarship and will soon have a research scholarship in environmental science. He could debunk all of this for you, but he says it's a waste of time.

People like you will believe what you believe regardless of evidence. What the fuck can I say to a complete lack of rationality.

Do you know a lot about climate science? If notyou have to take the opinion of the best scientists, not scientists that agree with you.

Of course these scientists exists, but that means nothing.

Also I find it hard to bleieve you've had the coolest July EVER.

You are bereft of facts, hence the name-calling. That scientists disagree and that the biosphere is too complex to model should give reasonable people pause.

But no, the global green jihad continues, with Mullah Al Gore bellowing fatwas and hysterical fanatics hurling invective in the name of Gaia.

Do I know if this is the coolest July EVER? Of course not, grasshopper. We can't know that. Another reason to doubt this scam.

Your brain must be shot from all that studying. I'm really disappointed in the weakness of your arguments.

I can prove we are all descended from aliens from the planet Moronia but you'll believe what you want to believe regardless of the evidence, which conveniently gets me off the hook for providing any.

O

Always the circular logistician

Hot and dry in the NW and South Central, cool and wet in the NE and Midwest. You confuse weather with climate.

Our understanding of global climate mechanics is simplistic at best, and simulations are only as good as the people who program them and the data available. Remember the old axion Garbage In - Garbage Out?

If the argument is over whether the sky is green or blue... and the government is handing out money to people who say the sky is green... how hard is it going to be to build a consensus that it is green?

Since when was science a democracy? There are an untold number of theories that were once commonly held to be fact which have been disproven... look up "luminiferous aether".

Problem is, you don't even understand the argument, thus are unfit to rebutt it.

Canadian Pragmatist said...

The argument is that if we wait longenough there will be nothing left we can do, so why not be skeptical and doubtful while we still can be.

The problem is that the real consequences of gw are actually being felt in Iceland, Greenland, and in the north of Canada.

Tha'ts why Obama will do something about it and why you will all be proved to have been oerly-skeptical lunatics.
