A Day to Remember

This is not a day of service. It's a day of remembrance.

We remember the innocent souls that never made it back home that day. We remember those brave men and women who responded to their nation's call. Most of all, we remember that freedom isn't free.

I was sitting in a military command post that day, not knowing where it would end, but sensing life would never be the same. I didn't get home 'till 10:30 that night, but the wife and my preschoolers were still up. The kids asked me if I saw what had happened. Then they asked me if I was sad. "No," I replied, "just mad."

We take off our shoes at the airport now, but we'll still be enjoying our women, our booze and our pork bbq. Meanwhile, Osama and his woman-fearing corn-holers crouch down in their angry, shit-smeared hell holes, plotting to set the world on fire because their life sucks...

Now, here's a beautiful 9/11 song, "The Bravest," by Tom Paxton...
Now every time I try to sleep
I'm haunted by the sound,
Of firemen pounding up the stairs
While we were coming down.

Wonderful tribute. I cannot believe it has been 8 years and I still have clear memories of that whole horrible day.

Thank you for sharing this.

Making the rounds tonight, I'm getting angrier by the minute...at people who either don't remember or don't care what happened just 8 years ago. Do you know how many people said something to me today at work about this day? 0 I'm still in shock over that...

Nice tribute and the three of us all have absolute agreement when it comes to the degradation of the day from a day of somber to Gay Day..

I'm all for service above self at all times, except on 911, 12-7 seem entirely inappropriate to be out planting trees and all the other two shoes shi* they are trying to co op September 11 into....

I ragged about it all week on the blog// there's 355 other days to save God's Green Earth, but if we let them forget 911...the next time which is on it's way this planet will be glass, especially once Iran finishes their SandHattan Project and sends a few camel mounted nukes our way.

Especially since Obama killed the missile shield,....Absolute moron.

Thanks, Ray. A couple million conservatives had something to say about all this yesterday. It was a beautiful thing...
