I Swear! Again!

I Swear! It's not a conspiracy. The flubbed presidential oath of office (can't we get anything right these days?) will spawn a thousand conspiracy theories, mark my words

WaPo tells us Chief Justice Roberts and President Obama redid the oath at the White House. Drudge adds conspiratorially that no Bible was used!

Okay, all you nuts on the left! Turn to the nut on your right and give him your tinfoil hat!

I posted on a similar comment on Justin Webb's America Blog on BBC.

Bible, no Bible, Qur'an, Torah... one oath, three oaths, it doesn't really matter to me.

What bothers me is that he would use a Bible, Torah, Roget's Thesaurus as a mere prop in the public ceremony to appeal to certain voters. It is disingenuous to use the book (any book) as a mere prop, when by using no book in private (and multiple sources including the BBC have reported that) illustrates that it doesn't matter to him either. Ergo, why should his use of the book publicly matter to me then?

You gotta admit though, Lincoln's train ride and Bible was a nice piece of political showmanship. I'm surprised we haven't heard he flubbed the oath because he was wearing Washington's wooden teeth (I know, I know, it was the Supreme's fault).

The conspiracy theories could be on either side.

The SCJ purposely messed up so that Obama wouldn't 'actually' become president on the left...

and on the right...

He's not really president! Bush's back!

Actually the conspiracy theories would problably be far more complicated than that. I can't honestly think of any others though?? Can you guys?

No. But just wait, we'll be hearing them soon enough. I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I actually enjoy tweaking those who are...

I'm not one either Silverfiddle, and truly abhor the troofers, but they did skip the bible part of the oath which to some people is a big deal.To me it's tradition and I sure don't dig the Koran as an option like Ellison in MN.

Fintann I agree with the "prop" remark, as "religion" and "blackness" are nothing but props to Obama, he had no problem chucking Rev Wrong and Grammy onto the tracks as the Obama Express "lef the station wiffout dem"

I personally tire of tradition being chucked to the wind, a chip here a chip there next thing the plate breaks, but that's me...

I prefer the America I grew up in to the one I now live in. Except the tech advances which cause the societal breakdown it seems? lol

I agree Ray. I certainly wasn't lumping you in with the "troofers"!

One only has to look at the top of our govt leadership to find the mother of all conspiracy theories that all others are mere subsets and reflexive copycats of.

I have no doubt that Mr Obama, Mr Biden and Mrs Clinton hold fast and truly believe that conservative capitalist are racist, bigoted, homophobic knuckle draggers out to harm poor people.

THAT my friends is the granddaddy of all irrational conspiracy theories. And ironically one so accepted that its proponents don't even recognise it as a conspiracy theory at all.
