Bushanomics

** Unhinged DeviledEgg Rant Alert! **

The man who destroyed capitalism in order to save it announced the launch of The George Bush Center for Big Government and Big Business:

Former President George W. Bush, outlining plans for a new public policy institute, on Thursday said America must fight the temptation to allow the federal government to take control of the private sector, declaring that too much government intervention will squelch economic recovery and expansion.
This is the man who authorized the largest transfer ever of taxpayer funds from the US Treasury to the pockets of Wall Street banksters and corrupt corporate crybabies disguised as capitalists.

"As the world recovers, we will face a temptation to replace the risk-and-reward model of the private sector with the blunt instruments of government spending and control. History shows that the greater threat to prosperity is not too little government involvement, but too much,"
This is the man who presided over more government growth than Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter and Leonid Brezhnev combined!

Folks, George Bush is a great guy, buuuut...
... He's not the figure 21st century conservatives should rally 'round.  He has no credibility on free market capitalism or small government.  The role of government when he was in office was to roll over everything in its path.  He presided over eight years of private sector-big business-big government orgies that brought us to where we are now.

Worst of all, he burdened us with TSA, Thousands Standing Around.  That alone is an impeachable offense in my book!

It pains me to say this.  Silverfiddle begged me not to say it.  He was in the military during his administration, and he says it literally felt like it was the military, President Bush, and good-hearted Americans against the world.

God bless President Bush, but he's a relic of the past.  Trying to defend his crony capitalism and big government policies is a quagmire all good conservatives should avoid.

Egg:
It did feel like President Bush and us against the world.

It's the George Bush Public Policy Institute, btw...

I agree he doesn't have much credibility on big government and the economy.

He was such a champion of poor and oppressed people around the world. Why didn't he focus on that?

I did not like George Bush's big government policies, but when it came to defending the country he was committed to doing just that. I agree with pretty much all the rest of his views-social issues. He is a great guy with maybe too much of a big heart since he couldn't let companies fail, or regroup. He did a great job with AIDS in Africa. Even Bono applauded him for that.

Yeah, Teresa, I admire him for his humanitarian outlook too. The angry libs hate him so much they can't give him credit where he's earned it.

I liked President Bush OK, I just thought he was terrible on big government and the economy.

I think it would be a mistake for conservatives to try and defend him on this issue.

@DeviledEgg,
Do you really think Bush is responsible for this financial crisis? I mean, I would only lay him with about 25% of the blame and that's only because he should have presed the housing issue more and tried to fix it even more than he did before the crisis started. He did try and avert this crisis, though. I have a youtube video over at my blog that shows Bush trying to take care of the crisis before it started. But, the Dems were lining their pockets with money, so they didn't want to take care of the housing problem. Plus, I believe that both Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton contributed to the financial meltdown due to forcing banks to give out loans to the poor, of which who they knew couldn't afford to pay their mortgages.

Egg, Silverfiddle, Teresa and Anonymous: all true about Dubya. Good guy, but the apple didn't fall all that far from the tree. Remember (as us old guys do) that when Daddy Bush ran against Reagan in 1979-80 in the primaries, he called Reagan's views on free market capitalism 'Voodoo economics.' Then he ended up as Veep, and had to shut up. Once he slipped into the Oval Office in 1988, he was a great war president, but George The Elder's liberal economic side was exposed for all of us to see: "Read my lips. No new taxes." Then he jacked up our taxes, because he thought it was a good idea to compromise with the Democrats.

Then Dubya came onto the scene, but he was just like his Daddy, not exactly a Reagan conservative. Strong on defense, but his economic posture has always been wobbly, must be a genetics thing. Recall Dubya's first economic decision? Slap a tariff on foreign steel. Yeah, like that was a good idea.

NOTE TO THE BUSHES: It's NEVER a good time to compromise with Democrats.

All of you guys are right: The Bush model of conservatism is not the future of the movement. Reagan's model is the right stuff. The Bush model is similar to riding on a bus with an 8 cylinder engine but is firing on only 5 of the cylinders: you get where you're going most of the time, but you smoke like a chimney enroute, and none of us passengers like the smell or the hazy view along the way.

The Reagan model is more like a freshly tuned Dodge Viper: lots of cylinders, big ones, and nobody ever bitched about the ride.

Teresa: We agree that all of this can't be laid a Bush's feet, and he did try to stop the housing debacle created by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.

Also, Obama is 10X worse.

But we must admit that he ballooned the deficit and grew government, and the crash happened on his watch, for better or for worse.

Who's to blame isn't my point. My point is that Bush is indefensible on this subject and conservative should not waste time trying.

Fred nailed it. Bush is a great guy, but he doesn't have credibility on the economy or big government.

The man who destroyed capitalism in order to save it" lolol,

that's great Silverfiddle, because that's what he did alright.... what a gift to Obama and the liberal traitors.

My feeling on Bush is this if anyone's interested...you all have covered it financially, I would've loved to have seen what that middle east project woulda' looked like if the liberals didn't stand in the way encouraging Al Queda the entire time which prolongs the war and deepens the debt...

That's a big elephant in the room to me.....In addition he failed us as well by not prosecuting traitors high in the government like Dingy Harry and our homegrown IL "Suck my _____ Durbin at the top of the liberal loon food chain, those who are now in charge of the same hen house raping us like a Marxist headed blind stepchild named Barack...

He prosecutes them and this don't happen...just my thought..our founders almost hanged Benedict Arnold for conspiring to turn his command of West Point over to the British, yet these contemporaries were practically colluding with the enemy through the Mass media for everyone to see, veiled behind free speech as they do so well.

That crap cost us a lot of soldiers lives, money and almost 2 more wars..that's treason any way you slice it.

For some reason all the liberals think we all think Bush was Washington because we supported in the war and terror killing effort.

That's why it's a mental disorder..delusional #1...

Hey Ray, Good point. If everybody had just gotten on the train and stayed there, Bush's Middle East project would be long over and our troops home.

But no, the Dems had to make political hay...

They did the same thing in Central America, if you remember back that far. Despite the Democrats' best efforts, communism did not prevail there....

Chicago Ray said...

Yup I remember...their opposition is what led to Iran Contra....they're always fighting what's best for America...

If Reagan coulda finished that job without the libs in the way, perhaps South America wouldn't be the hellhole it still is for the most part...and communism worldwide would've been eliminated instead of just in Europe/

President was a great president. He was a strong leader and was not trying to win a popularity contest, as the present person in office is.

Yes, he made a few errors, who doesn't? All in all I firmly believe he did a great job. He protected the pre-born, traditional marriage, and he prayed in front and off the camera. I will always stand by him.

Leticia,
I agree. Everyone makes mistakes, but all-in-all he was a good President.

I think we all agree President Bush was a great president. My point is that he was not a small-government conservative so we shouldn't fall into the trap of trying to defend his positions in this area.

When the ObamaTards scream "Bush increased the deficit! Bush bailed out the banksters!" We shouldn't fall into the trap of defending those actions.

We should respond, "yeah, and Obama quadrupled down on it."

Our economy needs more Mises, less Bush and absolutely less Obama!
