Soul Condoms & the Gloucester Girls
So a group of Gloucester high school girls supposedly made a pact to get pregnant, and 15 or so succeeded. You can read about it in Time.
For some reason, Time focused in on contraception. Superficially, it makes sense: Use contraception and you won't get pregnant. But these girls wanted to get pregnant, so why bring it up? Time started out by suggesting the girls may have been inspired by a couple of Hollywood chick flicks, but quickly changed the subject to Gloucester's sagging economy. The once-proud fishing boomtown has gone bust, leaving girls no choice but to get pregnant, concluded Time.
The real issue here is one of morals. Orthodox Jewish, Catholic, Baptist, Stoic, Secular Humanist... the brand doesn't matter. Pick one--stick to it. Our popular culture is amoral: it knows no right or wrong, which makes personal morality even more important, especially for adolescents.
Human society has always had its ills. Every 21st century sin can be found in some form in the Old Testament. So what's changed, you may ask? Here's what's changed: People used to do these things in seclusion, confining their activities to private clubs and other out of the way places. Nowadays, it's everywhere. The average person can't escape the spillover. Our society is becoming a toxic waste dump.
The real damage here is to the soul. Rampant consumer marketing, money worship, and an obsession with the human body are squeezing the poetry and beauty from our lives. It's a mad, howling 24/7 crush of YouTube, TV, advertisements, porn, booze, drugs, Hollywood, news, glorified violence, shouting, get rich now, unbridled anger...
All these things conspire to distort the meaning of man and woman. They desensitize the soul. Not just to vice, but also, tragically, to life's intrinsic beauty. Does anyone out there remember how to enjoy themselves without an electronic device or some consumer product?
Life is beautiful. But not to a soul pregnant with society's child. You can give kids condoms, but what they really need is a contraceptive for the soul.

In a typical way of confusing the facts by using distraction, the real story could have been missed. You, however, did an outstanding job of bringing out what the real problem is: the moral decline and the lack of Doing The Right Thing!
God bless you.
Thanks, Pastor Ed. Your website,
Do the Right Thing is a beacon in the darkness.
These 17 pregnant whores from Gloucester are just sluts…what’s the big deal? Didn’t your high school have sluts who'd screw anybody? That’s what abortion is for, to prevent these kids from having the burden of babies…the public better grow up and realize that kids control their own lives now. Kids can get pregnant and get an abortion (or have a baby) without parental consent. That’s just the way it is now, so , “tough it!” Kids today know their rights, and no adult is going to get in their way!!! It's the law, jerkoff.
Of course, Sharia Law in Iran (favorite country of Whoopi Goldberg and Rosi O'Donnell) would handle the highschool pregnant slut in Gloucester differently. They'd be stoned to death. Amina Lawal Kurami (born 1973) is a Nigerian woman. In March 2002, an Islamic Sharia court (in Funtua, Nigeria in the northern state of Katsina) sentenced her to death by stoning for adultery for conceiving a child out of wedlock. The father of the child was not prosecuted for lack of evidence.
I don't know what Anonymous's point is. I would never advocate handling cases like this with anything like sharia. I'm simply lamenting the fact that our culture has come to this.
Unfortunately, we will be supporting these young mothers and their progeny with our tax dollars while the fathers (and I use the term loosely) move on to the next conquest.
This Glouscester High School teen pregnancy pact sure sounds like your typical "self-destructive" behavior seen by young people as a society becomes more of a social state and less is expected of them by society. These kids all know that the government will pay for all the costs of their pregnancies and their baby's care till the babies grow up at age 18. You see, these kids really don't see any consequences to having a baby. Call it a tragedy, but I live in New Orleans, and very few pregnant mothers get married down here (even when they live with the father) because they'll lose their government benefits. The liberals WANT a dependent citizenry so they just give out the checks. No questions asked. If you don't believe me, then ask ANYONE from New Orleans about the "baby mama scam!"
Please look up the word "slut" in the dictionary. It does apply and, if the stigma to unwed birth still was around, the girls would not have their lives ruined. Boys are going to always seek sex; they are programmed for this and should be forced to live up to their obligations. Young girls are not dumb, but over millions of years, they have been bred to be submissive to males and to desire babies. It is our society in general which promotes this by brainwashing in TV and music, but the fantasy is only an illusion of happiness. It is political correctness and a failure to assign any blame by society which makes the slutty behavior (yes, it's simply preventable behavior) acceptable in society. My point: It is just as impossible to reason with a teenager about avoiding sex as it is to convince an alcoholic to stop drinking. Parents need to set restrictions on their children's activities and time (where did the copulation take place?) and learn to say no. Only then can parents prevent the little girls from becoming sluts.
Good points from the last two posts. Ever get the feeling our society is on autopilot? It's up to the parents to teach morality to their children, but there are so many competing messages.
Our government doesn't help. They promote bad behavior by subsidizing it. Have a baby? Here's more money. Nevermind tracking down the impregnator and making him own up to his responsibility.
Our government did the same thing with the Wall Street Banksters. They enriched themselves while nearly wrecking our economy and Uncle Sam bails them out with our tax money.
I'm getting upset, so I'll stop now.
