Oops! The Himalayas Aren't Really Melting After All...

The Global Warming Fraud Continues to Unravel

The scary Himalayan glacier prediction (all melted by 2035!) was not based upon any scientific study, but someone's very unscientific interpretation of a telephone interview.

As Gomer Pyle would say, Surprise!  Surprise! Surprise!

Excerpts from Times Online:
A WARNING that climate change will melt most of the Himalayan glaciers by 2035 is likely to be retracted after a series of scientific blunders by the United Nations body that issued it.

In the past few days the scientists behind the warning have admitted that it was based on a news story in the New Scientist, a popular science journal, published eight years before the IPCC's 2007 report.

It has also emerged that the New Scientist report was itself based on a short telephone interview with Syed Hasnain, a little-known Indian scientist then based at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi.

Hasnain has since admitted that the claim was "speculation" and was not supported by any formal research.

Timeless Wisdom

I like old quotes.  They teach us that wisdom is timeless and that there's nothing new under the sun.  Situations may change, but human nature does not.

"Health Care Reform" and Other Liberal Schemes

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
    -- C.S. Lewis

Global Warming Scam
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Copenhagen... I Used to Dip that Stuff!

A Global Shakedown
Any climate agreement that changes one law in the US or transfers one dime of taxpayer funds to another country is a willful selling of our national sovereignty.  This is a taxpayer shakedown meant to transfer trillions from productive, working people to the useless international bureaucrats, who skim their percentage then pass pennies on to favored kleptocratic rulers.

American aren't buying it, thank God in heaven:
Just how bad is the threat from global warming? About one in six Americans (17 percent) think the global warming situation is a crisis, which is essentially the same number who believe in flying saucers and the little green men with bulbous heads who supposedly fly them.
Draft of Final Copenhagen Statement (Translated by Me)

We, the collected cluster of presidents, ministers, high poobahs, tyrants, dictators, international shakedown artists, miscellaneous rabble and ignorami, do hereby decree:

The earth is heating up.  If current trends continue, it will eventually catch fire and we will all die in a hellish conflagration.  The only way to avoid this inevitable fate is for all rich, capitalist pig nations to immediately hang their heads in shame for the unforgivable sin of bringing prosperity to the world.

The next step is for these same gluttonous polluters to open their wallets (with heads still hung in shame!) and give trillions to the International League of Syndicated Wealth Reapportionment Organization, where the funds will be administrated by the UN Grand High Poobah Rapporteur of Public Wealth Redistribution.

Legions of useless, self-important bureaucrats, when not busy raping the women and children of the third world, will spread this wealth around.  Some pennies and farthings will actually make it to petty potentates and power-crazed kleprocrats, who will pretend to better the lives of the proletariat while greatly enriching themselves.

This will alleviate the guilt of rich liberals (who still must hang their heads in shame!), as BBQ grills and internal combustion engines fall silent and cold all across the greedy, self-indulgent first world.

The collective blameworthiness of the developed nations cannot be assuaged until we are all mired in a poverty that makes mankind look with nostalgia upon the pestilence-ridden Middle Ages.

May Mother Earth smile upon our suicidal obeisance and preserve the polar bears.

It Ain't Up To Snuff...

Hearing "Copenhagen" mentioned every five minuted was giving me flashbacks, even if they were pronouncing it the snooty European way.  It reminded me of this song from my high school days  when all us redneck farm boys chewed.  Just like in the song, I gave it up when my wife threatened me.  She tastes better...

Canadians Not Blinded by Science

I love sarcasm, especially when it's aimed a self-righteous busybodies whose schemes rely on fleecing the gullible...

Canada's National Post skewers the International Socialist Plenary Conclave going on in Copenhagen:
... stop worrying. These extravagant UN get-togethers always produce some sort of a final accord. Witness Kyoto in 1997, where an all-night session produced a compromise deal -- even if all the signatories have spent the last 12 years ignoring it.
As for those who are stressed by the possibility that negotiators will reach a last-minute agreement containing bona fide emission caps that will beggar industrialized nations for the benefit of developing ones, we also say stop worrying.

While delegates might sign away the moon amid the giddy glitter of Copenhagen, the realities of domestic politics they face when they return home-- recession, unemployment, budget deficits --mean their pledges will quickly fade to nothingness.

The editors unmask this charade as the scam that it is:  A transfer of wealth from rich, productive countries to poor, kleptocratic ones (and to upcoming countries like Brazil, China and India who should be ashamed of themselves participating in this cash grab.)

I didn't do anything to any of these beggar countries, so I owe them nothing.  In fact, Papa Silverfiddle spent a lot of time in Mexico and Brazil helping them improve their manufacturing processes.

These countries should stop begging and start producing things other people want to buy.

They've blinded us with science!

Copenhagen Climate Con

Save the planet!  End international climate conferences!
International hucksters are out in full force for the global climatological conclave in Copenhagen, and the gargantuan carbon footprint they produce will not strike any of them as even the least bit ironic.

Don't worry, sensible people will be there too. Film makers Ann McElhinney and Phelim McAleer (two more people Al Gore is afraid to debate) will be twittering away, and Senator James Inhofe will be there to harass and disabuse the gullible warmists.

The elephant in the room will be the climate-gate scandal.  Senator Inhofe says that is the final nail in the coffin.  It's not just an embarrassment, now it's a legal matter, since US Taxpayer money funded these flim flam artists.
The more than 3,000 emails and documents from the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (CRU) that have found their way to the Internet have blown the lid off the "science" of manmade global warming.

Their correspondence show a claque of scientists massaging data to make it fit their theories, squelching scientists who disagreed, punishing academic journals that didn't toe the apocalyptic line, and hiding their work from public view.
"It's no use pretending that this isn't a major blow," glumly wrote George Monbiot, a U.K. writer who has been among the fiercest warming alarmists. The documents "could scarcely be more damaging." And that's from a believer.  (WSJ - Kimberley Strassel)
Beware International Pickpockets
The New York Post editors have the best take:
here's hoping he doesn't allow America's pockets to be picked totally clean by the shamsters, scam artists and assorted "global-warming" opportunists who also will be in town for the occasion.
For, make no mistake: The whole point of the exercise is to transfer a trillion bucks from the economies of the world's developed nations to Third World kleptocrats -- with God-only-knows how much cash sticking to the fingers of well-connected UN bureaucrats.

The Fudge-inci Code: Behind The Global Warming Conspiracy

1) Collect Raw Data  >>  2) "Correct" the Data >> 3) Model/Share the "Corrected" Data >> 4) Trash the Raw Data

The leaked e-mails from the Global Warming Swindlers are titillating, but the tangle of manipulated data and computer code is where the real fraud takes place

It took some mighty creative human intervention to fudge out the desired results.  (Watts Up With That - Hide the Decline Codified)

Charlie Martin, a computer scientist from Colorado has written a highly entertaining piece describing the travails of one poor programmer's unsuccessful attempt to untangle the code and reconstruct the data to suit his mendacious masters.
Poor Harry is in the first circle of programmer hell: the program runs fine; the output is wrong.
To make it worse yet, Times Online reports that...
"scientists" admit they threw away "much of the raw temperature data," making independent verification impossible.

How convenient.

Secrecy is For Mad Scientists

As  London Imperial College and MIT researcher Michael Schrage tells us, secrecy and science do not go hand in hand, unless you're a mad scientist plotting to fleece the world.  Sounds like a James Bond movie, doesn't it? (FT - Secrecy in Science)

Here are comments from two readers:

I am a scientist and it astonishes me that respected journals would accept submissions, much less publish works, from scientists who refused to disclose their raw data and computer codes to other scientists who want to evaluate their work. [...]

This is one of the many real scandals in this whole affair. A lot of journal editors should be fired and peer reviewers removed from their positions as neutral arbiters of the quality of scientific work.

johnbowman said:
The real fraud is that "scientists" are passing off correlation as evidence, and manipulating the data to show correlation, when it is a basic principle of science that correlation is NOT evidence of causal link.

Manipulating the data is even more important now because observed data over the past 11 years has shown no correlation between global mean temperatures and rise in CO2, and, non-correlation IS accepted as scientific evidence of NO causal link.

This is the real scandal of that "scientists" have so easily deceived a target audience apparently easily, if not wittingly, deceived.

A Shared, Flawed Premise
The fudged data is the source of all further study, so it's a flawed premise.  When warmists argue that it's all been reviewed, yeah, it has, but "it" is the "adjusted" data.  The underlying raw data is gone.  They all start from this manipulated "adjusted" data set, and then all reach the same flawed conclusion.

Peer review means you hand over the raw data and allow other researchers to attempt to verify or refute your conclusion.  That didn't happen, so there was no peer review per accepted scientific standards.  This is a fraud of global dimensions.

Hide The Decline

Liberals are so entertaining, what with their beliefs in fairy tales like global warming...

Minnesotans for Global Warming give the e-mailing science scammers a royal roasting in this parody "Hide the Decline," a takeoff of Tommy James and the Shondell's "Draggin the Line."

Climategate: Believers in Denial

The Warmists are circling the medicine show wagons.  A plucky digital Toto pulled back the curtain to reveal The Global Warming Wizards as just another cabal of fudging humbugs.

James Delingpole has a great summary of the fallout so far.  Here's a snark sample, where he lampoons one of the guilty scientist's excuse:
“The use of the term ‘hiding the decline’ was in an email written in haste,”
Which does make you wonder how the sentence would have read had he just had a little longer to type it correctly. “Hiding the sausage?” “Heeding the decline?”
Go read the whole piece Here.

Gerald Warner also has a good update in The Telegraph.  Conservative and libertarian Brits, so tired of being dictated to for so long, are relishing this scandal even more that conservative Americans are:
Fox News, Barack Obama’s Nemesis, is now on the case, trampling all over Al Gore’s organic vegetable patch and breaking the White House windows.

At the more domestic level, the proposed ban on incandescent light bulbs, so supinely accepted in this servile state of Britain, is now provoking a huge backlash in America.

US citizens do not like the government coming into their houses and putting their lights out. Voters may not understand the cut and thrust of climate debate at the technical level, but they know when the Man from Washington has crossed their threshold uninvited.
Go read Warner's short article here. Check out the reader comments as well. They are entertaining and heartening. Many Europeans still look to the US and take hope from the heroic resistance of common sense conservative and libertarian Americans.

Global Warming Hacked

Global Warming stands at the crossroads of scientific tomfoolery and economic ignorance.

Now, with the hacking of one of the principle citadels of this world wide fraud, the jig may be up for the global warming swindlers, according to James Delingpole
The conspiracy behind the Anthropogenic Global Warming myth (aka AGW; aka ManBearPig) has been suddenly, brutally and quite deliciously exposed after a hacker broke into the computers at the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit (aka Hadley CRU) and released 61 megabites of confidential files onto the internet. (Hat tip: Watts Up With That)
He shares some damning evidence in his excellent article.  These are actual quotes from the "scientists":
Manipulation of evidence:
I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline.
Private doubts about whether the world really is heating up:
The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t.
The Washington Post has a short piece on this here:  WaPo - Climate Fudge Factory Hacked

Loony Left:  We shall not be moved (despite the evidence of fraud)
None of this matters to the left.  Can't let facts get in the way of a good global scam.  Self-described "Environmental Strategist" Andrew Winston is a typical fount of nonsense:
we need a cap and price on carbon so we can compete and innovate.
This is nonsensical, so he elaborates:
Without a cost on carbon and some restrictions on total emissions, the "externality" that is climate change won't be priced into our investment decisions.
In other words, we need to make the cost of fossil fuels artificially high so inefficient, pie-in-the-sky "green technologies" can compete.  Jack up everybody's light bill to line Al Gore's pockets.  Go ahead Dems, run on that in 2010.
"Talk to a climate change believer long enough and they will eventually get around to saying the earth has too many people.  Well then, they should go first!"
--Ann McElheinney (Anti-enviro heroine)
