Conservatism

We are still a nation where conservatives (34%) outnumber liberals (22%). 40% are up for grabs, and the Democratic party has been attracting them by sounding conservative (Talk right, vote left).

Here's a post-election e-mail from the Heritage Foundation, the conservative think tank that produces scholarly analysis of political issues that ordinary folks like you and me can understand.

I keep telling everyone to keep their powder dry. Well, the Heritage Foundation is the armory where you can get all the ammo you need to fight for the conservative cause.
Go to the Heritage Web Site and arm yourself for battle!

What the election means

On Tuesday, American voters elected Senator Barack Obama to be the next President of the United States. His Democratic Party allies also realized substantial gains in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

In a column circulated nationwide, Heritage Foundation President Ed Feulner explains what this election means for conservatives.

An abiding belief in our country's greatness, tinged with optimism, has long been a cornerstone of conservatism. And Obama's been tacitly leaning toward conservative ideas since he became the Democratic nominee. Even though his record indicated he was the most liberal candidate in (at least) a generation, he ran as a conservative on major issues like taxes (promising to cut them), the military (vowing to add some 92,000 new troops) and energy (saying he'd at least consider offshore drilling).

"The problem," he continues,

is that both political parties have failed Americans

In recent years the Republican Party, which in Reagan's hands carried the conservative standard to new heights, lost its way. Federal spending now tops $25,000 per household annually, and the coming Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid costs of 77 million retiring baby boomers threaten to add another $12,000 per household to the taxpayers' annual tab. Yet neither party offers a solution to the entitlement crisis or a real plan to cut spending.

And while "Republicans who have lost touch with their conservative roots are in trouble," Feulner argues, "conservatives are thriving," dominating the talk radio airwaves and expanding their online presence on sites like Townhall.com.

Still a center-right nation

Heritage Vice President Mike Franc made two key observations about the election results in a National Review Online symposium.

First, with the defeat of Republican moderates, "returning House Republicans will be more uniformly conservative. To the extent congressional Republicans plan to rediscover their inner conservative selves, this enhanced ideological uniformity will serve them well."

Secondly, and more importantly, Franc notes that "the exit polls, to the extent they can be believed, remind us once again that America remains a decisively right-of-center nation."

Liberal remains a dirty word. In fact, many more Americans continue to self-identify as conservative (34 percent) than as liberal (only 22 percent). Knowing this, successful Democratic candidates across the country used conservative rhetoric and themes to score points against their Republican opponents and win the hearts of voters. The Democrats' repeated refrain on behalf of middle class tax relief was but one of several such examples.

It's Not Racism

Black voters turned out in force and voted overwhelmingly for Barack Obama. General Colin Powell endorsed him. An emotional Condoleezza Rice spoke Wednesday of how excited she was to see this historic event. Some are pointing to this as black racism. That's nonsense, and here's why.

We're all aware of the history of race relations in this country. Even those of us who under no circumstances would have voted for Obama can at least breath a sigh of relief: Finally, race is no longer a barrier to the pinnacle of national and world leadership. As a bonus, we can now look down our noses disapprovingly at those backward, racist Europeans: not one black leader to be found on the entire Olde Continent!

Black voters traditionally vote Democratic anyway, so I don't know how a group of people sticking to their voting patterns can be called racist.

General Powell is a doer, has been all his life. He is obviously not content to sit by the fire with grandkids on his knee telling war stories. His has been a life of dedicated service to his country, and it appears he wants to continue serving in some capacity, regardless of which party is in power. I salute him.

Finally,
Secretary Rice. A beautiful, scholarly woman of great accomplishments who has personally been touched by racial hatred as a child. Unlike the Clintons' imaginary church burnings, she saw such things for real. Ms. Rice was 8 years old when Klansmen bombed the 16th Street Baptist Church, killing her 11 year old friend Denise McNair. I can understand her becoming emotional at this historic event.

People of all stripes and creeds are celebrating president-elect Obama. Don't sneer. Be joyful at this historic national milestone, and allow that people have a right to celebrate this momentous occasion.

And once he's in office, fight him every step of the way when he works to implement policies you disagree with. To cut him any slack because he is black would be, well... racist!

Don't Worry, Be Happy

It's not the end of the world. You control more of your own life and your destiny than any other entity, including government. To think otherwise is to fall into the bitter pit of futility that has trapped so many angry liberals.

God loves you. Stay happy, stay in control of your life, and stay involved. Stay involved in society and politics. Don't let your political opponents shut you up.

Pray for President Obama while opposing his actions you disagree with. Show those poop throwing monkeys on the left how citizens can patriotically and respectfully oppose a president's policies they disagree with while still being magnanimous enough to support that same president when he does something praiseworthy.

Here's an encouraging poem a friend e-mailed me:

CLEANING HOUSE 2008

Last week I threw out Worrying. It was getting old and in the way.
It kept me from being me; I couldn't do things God's way.

I threw out a book on MY PAST (didn't have time to read it anyway).
Replaced it with NEW GOALS, started reading it today.

I threw out hate and bad memories. (Remember how I treasured them so?)
Got me a NEW PHILOSOPHY too; threw out the old one from long ago.

Brought in some new books too, called I CAN, I WILL, AND I MUST.
Threw out I MIGHT, I THINK and I OUGHT. WOW, you should've seen the dust.

I ran across an OLD FRIEND. Haven't seen him in a while.
I believe his name is GOD. Yes, I really like His style.

He helped me to do some cleaning and added some things Himself.
Like PRAYER, HOPE AND FAITH, Yes I placed them right on the shelf.

I picked up this special thing and placed it at the front door.
I found it-its called PEACE. Nothing gets me down anymore.

Yes, I've got my house looking nice. Looks good around the place.
For things like Worry and Trouble there just isn't any space.

It's good to do a little house cleaning, get rid of the things on the shelf.
It sure makes things brighter; maybe you should TRY IT YOURSELF.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath;
Be not vexed, it will only harm you.
Gleeful Obamabots, Glum McCainiacs
So many polls are not news, and most just reinforce what we already knew. This one is no different: It reveals Obama supporters feel proud and exuberant, full of enough religious fervor to make the Arab Street jealous. Meanwhile, McCain voters are glum, upset at press coverage, and just want the whole damn thing over with.
This is news? Those backing the candidate who is ahead in the polls are happier than those whose candidate is losing?
It does reinforce a few points that we already knew:
1) The anti-McCain, Pro-Obama PsyOps carried out by Obama's adoring press has not gone unnoticed. The bias is maddening. A logical conclusion is the press is cooperating with the Democratic party to suppress the conservative vote. Fortunately, conservatives don't give up that easily.
2) Liberals display a third-world tendency to invest more emotion in their candidates. They are always looking for a redeemer to deliver them from something and remake their lives and the country. Conservatives generally just want their candidate to be competent and leave them alone. Making things worse, conservatives know their last choice for president really blew it on both counts. He kept us safe, and gave us two good Supreme Court Justices, but that's about it.
So gleeful Democrats will form a coast-to-coast conga line to the polls, transported by a euphoric ecstasy only the expectation of a messiah redeemer can evoke. They remind me of the Twelver Shia in Southern Iraq who whip themselves into an ecstatic religious frenzy in expectation of the Hidden Imam. Meanwhile, Republicans dutifully trudge to the polls powered by nothing but grim determination.
Thankfully, a grim, dejected vote counts just as much as a fervent, ecstatic one.
Election 2008: There Will Be Blood
Voter fraud and rumors of voter fraud... No matter who gets elected, we're looking at post-election violence. I'm not talking a few fistfights, I'm talking nationwide Detroit wins the World Series rioting. Rampaging partisans torching buildings and turning over cars, either in anger or in celebration...
Charges of election stealing will fill the air like clouds of angry hornets. Yes, whoever is elected will be immediately and permanently delegitimized by half the population. And that's a shame because a few simple changes in voter registration laws and voting procedures could have prevented it all, but partisan bickering and billion dollar solutions somehow got in the way.
John Fund has been a lone voice in the wilderness, crying out for reform of our voting laws.
A new federal mandate requires that all voters be allowed to cast a provisional ballot if their names don’t appear on registration lists. Liberal groups are suing to have such ballots counted even if they are cast in precincts where the voter doesn’t live. ... Candidates may have to hope their vote totals are beyond the “margin of litigation.”
The issue of photo ID has become symbolic of the clash of values on election standards. Supporters say it is bizarre that most states don’t require a photo ID to vote, at a time when one is needed to buy an airline ticket, rent a video or cash a check. A Rasmussen Research poll found 82 percent of Americans believed voters should show photo ID, including 70 percent of Obama voters. But liberal groups insist that even laws that allow voters to use a paycheck or utility bill as ID discriminate against minority voters and could lead to “profiling.”
But when voters are disfranchised by the counting of improperly cast ballots or outright fraud, their civil rights are violated just as surely as if they were prevented from voting. The integrity of the ballot box is just as important to the credibility of elections as access to it.
Our stupid, bloated federal and state governments can't even do elections right. And it's been eight years since the Election 2000 Theater of the Absurd in Florida. Do you really think this election will be any different? I pray that I am wrong.
Huntley Brown: Why I Can't Vote for Obama
Huntley Brown - a fabulous concert pianist, a man of God and a black man who is not voting for Obama. I got this in an e-mail. It checked out with Snopes, who contacted Mr. Brown to establish the veracity of his e-mail. Read all the way through and see his response to Snopes. This is a Godly man who has some words of wisdom for us all concerning our nation, our laws, and our politics. I also admire his unassailable logic combined with charity for those he disagrees with.
-------------------------
Why I Can't Vote For Obama
By Huntley Brown
Dear Friends, A few months ago I was asked for my perspective on Obama, I sent out an email with a few points. With the election just around the corner I decided to complete my perspective. Those of you on my e-list have seen some of this before but it's worth repeating...
First I must say whoever wins the election will have my prayer support. Obama needs to be commended for his accomplishments but I need to explain why I will not be voting for him.
Many of my friends process their identity through their blackness. I process my identity through Christ. Being a Christian (a Christ follower) means He leads I follow. I can't dictate the terms He does because He is the leader.
I can't vote black because I am black; I have to vote Christian because that's who I am. Christian first, black second. Neither should anyone from the other ethnic groups vote because of ethnicity. 200 years from now I won't be asked if I was black or white. I will be asked if I knew Jesus and accepted Him as Lord and Savior.
In an election there are many issues to consider but when a society gets abortion, same-sex marriage, embryonic stem-cell research, human cloning to name a few, wrong economic concerns will soon not matter.
We need to follow Martin Luther King's words, don't judge someone by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I don't know Obama so all I can go off is his voting record. His voting record earned him the title of the most liberal senator in the US Senate in 2007.
NATIONAL JOURNAL: Obama: Most Liberal Senator in 2007 (01/31/2008)
To beat Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton as the most liberal senator, takes some doing. Obama accomplished this feat in 2 short years. I wonder what would happen to America if he had four years to work with.
There is a reason Planned Parenthood gives him a 100 % rating. There is a reason the homosexual community supports him. There is a reason Ahmadinejad, Chavez, Castro, Hamas etc. love him. There is a reason he said he would nominate liberal judges to the Supreme Court. There is a reason he voted against the infanticide bill. There is a reason he voted No on the constitutional ban of same-sex marriage. There is a reason he voted No on banning partial birth abortion. There is a reason he voted No on confirming Justices Roberts and Alito. These two judges are conservatives and they have since overturned partial birth abortion. The same practice Obama wanted to continue.
Let's take a look at the practice he wanted to continue.
The 5 Step Partial Birth Abortion procedures:
A. Guided by ultrasound, the abortionist grabs the baby's leg with forceps. (Remember this is a live baby)
B. The baby's leg is pulled out into the birth canal.
C. The abortionist delivers the baby's entire body, except for the head.
D. The abortionist jams scissors into the baby's skull. The scissors are then opened to enlarge the hole.
E. The scissors are removed and a suction catheter is inserted. The child's brains are sucked out, causing the skull to collapse. The dead baby is then removed.
God help him. There is a reason Obama opposed the parental notification law.
Think about this: You can't give a kid an aspirin without parental notification but that same kid can have an abortion without parental notification.. This is insane.
There is a reason he went to Jeremiah Wright's church for 20 years.
Obama tells us he has good judgment but he sat under Jeremiah Wright teaching for 20 years. Now he is condemning Wright's sermons.. I wonder why now?
Obama said Jeremiah Wright led him to the Lord and discipled him. A disciple is one in training. Jesus told us in Matthew 28:19 - 20 'Go and make disciples of all nations.' This means reproduce yourself. Teach people to think like you, walk like you; talk like you believe what you believe etc. The question I have is what did Jeremiah Wright teach him?
Would you support a White President who went to a church which has tenets that said they have a ...
1. Commitment to the White Community
2. Commitment to the White Family
3. Adherence to the White Work Ethic
4. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the White Community
5. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting White Institutions
6. Pledge allegiance to all White leadership who espouse and embrace the White Value System
7. Personal commitment to embracement of the White Value System
Would you support a President who went to a church like that?
Just change the word from white to black and you have the tenets of Obama's former church. If President Bush was a member of a church like this, he would be called a racist. Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton would have been marching outside.
This kind of church is a racist church. Obama did not wake up after 20 years and just discovered he went to a racist church. The church can't be about race. Jesus did not come for any particular race. He came for the whole world.
A church can't have a value system based on race. The churches value system has to be based on biblical mandate. It does not matter if it's a white church or a black church it's still wrong. Anyone from either race that attends a church like this would never get my vote.
Obama's former Pastor Jeremiah Wright is a disciple of liberal theologian James Cone, author of the 1970 book A Black Theology of Liberation. Cone once wrote: 'Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him.'
Cone is the man Obama's mentor looks up to. Does Obama believe this?
So what does all this mean for the nation?
In the past when the Lord brought someone with the beliefs of Obama to lead a nation it meant one thing - judgment.
Read 1 Samuel 8 when Israel asked for a king. First God says in 1 Samuel 1:9 'Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do.'
Then God says
1 Samuel 1:18 ' When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the LORD will not answer you in that day.' 19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. 'No!' they said. 'We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.' 21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the LORD. 22 The LORD answered, 'Listen to them and give them a king.'
Here is what we know for sure.
God is not schizophrenic
He would not tell one person to vote for Obama and one to vote for McCain. As the scripture says, a city divided against itself cannot stand, so obviously many people are not hearing from God.
Maybe I am the one not hearing but I know God does not change and Obama contradicts many things I read in scripture so I doubt it.
For all my friends who are voting for Obama can you really look God in the face and say; Father based on your word, I am voting for Obama even though I know he will continue the genocidal practice of partial birth abortion. He might have to nominate three or four Supreme Court justices, and I am sure he will be nominating liberal judges who will be making laws that are against you. I also know he will continue to push for homosexual rights, even though you destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for this. I know I can look the other way because of the economy.
I could not see Jesus agreeing with many of Obama's positions. Finally I have two questions for all my liberal friends.
Since we know someone's value system has to be placed on the nation,
1. Whose value system should be placed on the nation.
2. Who should determine that this is the right value system for the nation?
Blessings,
Huntley Brown
-------------------------------------
Here is his response when Snopes.com contacted him to verify he wrote the words in question. Mr. Brown is a Christian man we can all emulate.
Yes, I wrote this e-mail. I was responding to my friends who asked me to vote for Senator Obama because he is black.
It was not my intention to send it around the world.
I did not post this e-mail or send out any pictures attached. I wish they had not done that.
My friends did not ask me to vote for Senator Mccain which explains why my e-mail was geared towards Senator Obama.
My e-mail was not meant to influence public opinion in any way, but simply to share with my friends my views on why I could not vote for Senator Obama.
I have problems with both candidates, but the differences I have with Senator Mccain are pale in comparison with the ones I have with Senator Obama
For the record, I am not a politician. I am not a Democrat or a Republican. I am a Christian independent who just loves the Lord.
If Senator Obama wins he can count on my prayer support every day.
I tell my friends it's like a family where you have different opinions, but you love each other just the same. I love and appreciate Senator Obama but our views are diametrically opposed.
If I knew my e-mail would have generated this much interest on a national level, I would have left out a few points. I don't want people to think I am against gay people or against people who have had abortions. (I am not) We are all sinners saved by grace but we need to have some absolute laws to govern society or else we will self destruct.
What has really bothered me is our beautiful black women constitute only 6% of the population, yet they comprise 36% of the abortion industry's clientele. Obama has done nothing to stop this. Most people don't know that the leading abortion providers have chosen to exploit us blacks by locating 94% of their abortuaries in urban neighborhoods with high black populations. Obama has done nothing to stop this?
To be honest I can't wait to vote for the first black President but it has to be a person who shares the values I read in the Bible.
Thanks for checking to make sure my e-mail is legit it is.
The sad part is I have been getting hate mail and my family is being harassed. As you can imagine not everyone is happy with my e-mail.
God bless you richly.
From Cowboy Capitalists to Third-World Throngs
Cowboy Capitalism made us the greatest nation in history. Will a third-world clamor for a charismatic redeemer lead us down the road to loserdom, to join the ranks of our flaccid, declining, collectivist European cousins? Two smart men give us their take on what's happening to our society in two Wall Street Journal columns.
Dan Henninger reminds us of our greatness and the brave, frontier attitude that got us here. Fouad Ajami worries that Obamamania is driving our country towards "the politics of charisma that wrecked Arab and Muslim societies."
Here's Henninger's celebration of America, sure to encourage conservatives and disgust liberals.
The goal of Sen. Obama and the modern, "progressive" Democratic Party is to move the U.S. in the direction of Western Europe, the so-called German model and its "social market economy." Under this notion, business is highly regulated, as it would be in the next Congress under Democratic House committee chairmen Markey, Frank and Waxman. Business is allowed to create "wealth" so long as its utility is not primarily to create new jobs or economic growth but to support a deep welfare system.
This would be a historic shift, one post-Vietnam Democrats have been trying to achieve since their failed fight with Ronald Reagan's "Cowboy Capitalism."
Of course Cowboy Capitalism built the country. More than any previous nation in history, the United States made its way forward on a 200-year wave of upwardly mobile, profit-seeking merchants, tradesmen, craftsmen and workers. They blew out of New England and New York, rolled across the wildernesses of the Central States, pushed across a tough Western frontier and banged into San Francisco and Los Angeles, leaving in their path city after city of vast wealth.
The U.S. emerged a superpower, and the tool of that ascent was simple -- the pursuit of economic growth. Now China, India and Brazil, embracing high-growth Cowboy Capitalism, are doing what we did, only their cities are bigger.
Now comes Barack Obama, standing at the head of a progressive Democratic Party, his right hand rising to say, "Mothers, don't let your babies grow up to be for-profit cowboys. It's time to spread the wealth around."
What this implies, undeniably, is that the United States would move away from running with the high GDP, high-growth nations rising today as economic and political powers and move over to retire with the low-growth economies we displaced -- old Europe.
Fouad Ajami, the Arab world's greatest gift to America, draws some striking parallels between his beloved America and the Arab street of his boyhood.
Save in times of national peril, Americans have been sober, really minimalist, in what they expected out of national elections, out of politics itself. The outcomes that mattered were decided in the push and pull of daily life, by the inventors and the entrepreneurs, and the captains of industry and finance. To be sure, there was a measure of willfulness in this national vision, for politics and wars guided the destiny of this republic. But that American sobriety and skepticism about politics -- and leaders -- set this republic apart from political cultures that saw redemption lurking around every corner.
My boyhood, and the Arab political culture I have been chronicling for well over three decades, are anchored in the Arab world. And the tragedy of Arab political culture has been the unending expectation of the crowd -- the street, we call it -- in the redeemer who will put an end to the decline, who will restore faded splendor and greatness. When I came into my own, in the late 1950s and '60s, those hopes were invested in the Egyptian Gamal Abdul Nasser. He faltered, and broke the hearts of generations of Arabs. But the faith in the Awaited One lives on, and it would forever circle the Arab world looking for the next redeemer.
America is a different land, for me exceptional in all the ways that matter. In recent days, those vast Obama crowds, though, have recalled for me the politics of charisma that wrecked Arab and Muslim societies. A leader does not have to say much, or be much. The crowd is left to its most powerful possession -- its imagination.
It ain't over 'till it's over. Don't let the liberal politicians and their lap dogs in the press turn this into a third world country: Vote!
House GOP Fights Bush-Obama-Frank-Dodd Bailout
The NY Sun asks the question: Will the GOP Congress try a new contract with America this election?
Answer: No.
"There will be no effort to try to nationalize the elections," the House Republican leader, Rep. John Boehner, told reporters ...
Mr. Boehner's comments offered a stark reminder of his party's challenges in November, led by a lame duck president with low approval ratings and facing an electorate that voted Republicans out of power two years ago.
While the strategy will free up candidates to tout their independence and distance themselves from a party label that has been damaged in recent years, it may disappoint some activists looking for a more cohesive national strategy and a platform centered around new ideas.
Mr. Boehner cited energy as the issue where Republicans are most confident about making gains against Democrats. He pointed to polling that shows Americans increasingly open to offshore oil drilling, a point that both Mr. McCain and congressional Republicans have been pressing of late.
I really wanted another contract with America, but Mr. Boehner knows more about politics than I do. Plus, I think things are looking up for the Republican "brand".
House Republicans led my Mr. Boehner got Congress to drop the drilling ban and they stood up against the Washington-Wall Street giveaway of taxpayer money. I think they should proudly run on those two important issues.
Let the Democrats run on their support the Bush-Obama bailout.
